There's Boone, who in theory can cover any range, but whose shotgun is so underwhelming I genuinely couldn't tell if it was even firing. There's Rev, whose weak rockets are more like a machine gun, harassing with hit and run dashes on her hoverboard before covering her retreat with light, fast-recharging grenades. There's your big pirate lad soaking up hits on defence, detonating defensive bombs, and firing weak but continuous arcing cannonballs with no reload. Getting used to the characters helps, of course. One key tip I overlooked for too long was that the dodge button does far more than avoid an incoming attack: it cancels out any stunlock for a vital moment too, and learning to use it effectively is where you begin to step out of beginner territory. The triple jumps and rocket jumps add much z-dimension hopping, but can make the frantic fights disorientating too. Sometimes it's hard to tell where damage is coming from as you get spun around so much, attacks tend to launch people skywards, and of course when you're highly damaged you suddenly become a tempting target for everyone. The downside is that there's an element of stunlock to most attacks, and that can feel very frustrating at first. It works in reverse too, as you'll feel invincible until you're suddenly desperate to flee and hide for the few precious moments it takes for your damage to cool back down. Chasing that final hit often feels thrice as difficult as doing the far heavier damage that preceded it. We all love filling progress bars, right? And then, crucially, you have to get just that one last hit in. Somehow on a psychological level this changes everything, as you watch someone's counter go up and up. Treasonous readers who play games on platforms other than PC may recognise this as similar to the system in a game called Smash Bros. Instead of health ticking down from 100%, the game counts damage upwards, and when you've been hit enough, you reach a critical state where the next scratch of damage will blast you out of the arena for a KO. Although each of its main weapons is, yes, a rocket launcher, many of them are functionally much like regular guns, and it's the damage model that matters. Probably its defining trait isn't the rockets.

Can you imagine having to recreate this page in InDesign manually? It’s just one of 1,200 pages where the default type size is 5.5/6! Click on the image to see a larger version.Īs with the Dataviz products, you can’t expect perfect file conversion, especially because page layout programs often have key differences that just don’t translate. This is the same section of the page after converting it to InDesign CS3 with Markzware’s Q2ID plug-in. Click on the image to see a larger version.įigure 4. This is the top couple of inches from a random page in an electronic parts catalog done in QuarkXPress 6.5 (note the cursor upper right). Pub2ID, a plug-in for InDesign CS2 or CS3, converts Microsoft Publisher files to INDD layouts.įigure 3. ID2Q is an XTension for QuarkXPress 6 or 7 that - surprise! - converts INDD files to QXP layouts. The first one, Q2ID, is an InDesign CS2 or CS3 plug-in that converts QuarkXPress 3-7 files into INDD files. Markzware to the rescue! In true entrepreneurial spirit, these developers, already well-known for their flagship FlightCheck Professional prepress software, found a need and filled it with their killer conversion add-ons, Q2ID, ID2Q, and Pub2ID.Įach program is available for Mac OS X and Windows and can convert cross-platform. What can you do if a client sends you QuarkXPress 6.5 source files and you only use Adobe InDesign CS3? While Dataviz software is great for converting general business files and graphics, it doesn’t speak page layoutese. Data and most formatting remains intact, but don’t expect the converted file to look and feel exactly like the original. (Click on the image to see larger version of it.) For the full list, go to Of course, file conversions, just like language translations, can only go so far. Here are about half of the file formats MacLinkPlus Deluxe can convert. (Probably the highest-versioned software I own.) This wunderkind, and its Windows equivalent, Conversions Plus ($49.99), can convert dozens of file types from one format to another, on the same platform or cross-platform.įigure 2. Instead of calling my client to ask her to save the spreadsheet out to a tab-delimited text file, I simply converted it to an Excel file in a flat minute with my trusty MacLinkPlus Deluxe ($79.99) software from DataViz, which is now on version 16. Remember that Quatro Pro (DOS) file I mentioned? I needed to get data out of it to include in a chart, but I didn’t have a PC running DOS, let alone Quatro Pro. Here are some trusted conversion tools I’ve come to rely upon to get me out of just about any file format jam. Ack! What the heck is a CWK file?Īs a business owner, I want to make it as easy as possible for clients to work with me, but I can’t go broke buying every application under the sun just to open their occasional weirdo file. My ever-lovin’ clients blithely send me files created in the dawn of time (WQ1, which is Quatro Pro DOS), files from a program they’ve upgraded to and so assume everyone else has too (DOCX, the new Microsoft Word format), and every format in between, from WS4 (WordStar) to CDR (CorelDraw) to PUB (Microsoft Publisher) – all without a thought that I may not be able to do anything with them.įigure 1. In their sweet naiveté, they assume that if you have a computer, you can open any computer file, period. Most clients don’t need to be as computer-savvy as we do it’s just a peripheral tool to them. To me, the real challenge for designers is dealing with the hundreds of other file formats out there, the ones clients occasionally ask you to pull content from. Luckily, most layout programs (Web, print, or presentation) can import a wide variety of graphics file formats and if they can’t, a quick trip to an image converter utility (or in and out of Photoshop, Illustrator, or CorelDRAW) will spit out a version in an appropriate format. Your clients and vendors assume you know the limitations and appropriate use of all the image file types: JPEG, TIFF, PSD, AI, EPS, GIF, PNG, DNG, BMP… Tell me, did you take that class at Design School U? I bet they forgot to tell you in design school that you need to become an expert in computer file formats to survive, let alone succeed, in our field.Ĭonsider graphic file formats. Written by Anne-Marie “HerGeekness” Concepcion on July 9, 2008 Part 1 of my file conversion survival kit will have you repurposing those files lickety split – without asking the client to lift a finger, and without forcing you to buy every application under the sun just to open the occasional weirdo document. When clients hand you source files so ancient or obscure that they’re unreadable for design layout file conversion, don’t despair. Q2ID is a big help for those who want to convert Quark to InDesign, as noted in the article below: This file conversion software can convert content from QuarkXPress to Adobe InDesign. Design layout file conversion can be done with Q2ID by Markzware. Pro-R sounds good but I think there are a few alternatives you could try out that are just as good. Exponential Audio's reverbs are the only reverbs I really love (well, kinda). Pro-R (Reverb) I'm constantly disappointed with reverbs. But again, ReaEQ and MEqualizer are more than good enough. NOTE: I personally use the reaper only "JS: ReEQ." but would use TDR Nova if I ever switch to a different DAW. ReaEQ ( ) or MEqualizer ( ) both are solid EQs. Pro-Q 3 (Equalizer) - TDR Nova ( ) you could use this as a great sounding 4 band eq as well or a dynamic eq as well. Which can be good or bad, in, let's say, your mastering chain. But it keeps that "different" compression sound that ReaComp has. So yeah, it's a decent sounding multiband compressor. Pro-MB (Multiband Compressor) edit Best sounding and responsive multiband compressor I've ever used, but: - ReaXcomp is the only free version that I found that's decent. The W1 limiter ( ) is good as well but Loudmax is really all you need for your limiting needs. In fact I'm not sure I'd use the L2 over Loudmax. LoudMax ( ) Loudmax is on par with the great and underrated, waves L2 limiter. Pro-L 2 (Limiter) I wasn't too impressed with this limiter, it's very very slightly better than Loudmax (free, and described below.) I mean barely better. If you use gates often, get this one as it's more than worth the time to download and install. ReaGate ( ) For whatever reason this gate is sooooooo easy to dial in the right parameters that are needed, even easier than the Fabfilter Pro-G gate. Pro-G (Gate) It's a gate, does its job and is very easy to learn. Mostly though, these presets are a good learning tool on how to properly deess with a multiband compressor. ReaXcomp ( ) and TDR Nova ( ) have some good (hit or miss) presets. AirWindows DeEss ( ) about 70% of the time I can get solid DeEssing from this plugin, although I prefer automation for deEssing. Pro-DS (DeEsser) This is the only plugin I did not test out. It's top of the line, I've used many different bus compressors and none are objectively better than this. Haven't had much success with it as a drum compressor - TDR Kotelnikov ( ) Use this bad boy for Drums, Bus and Mastering. Works well for Vocals, Bass, toms and snare. ReaComp ( ) Honestly, it's a different sounding compressor. It does the job it's supposed to with Vocals and Bass, not very good on drums, IMO. Here are some free options: - MCompressor ( ) Sounds like you're run of the mill good compressor. Pro-C 2 (Compressor) The Fabfilter compressor is so well done, you can use it for any application (Vocals, Bass, ect) including drums, which is rare, as, IMO, most compressors aren't that versatile. These free plugins are more than sufficient to be used in place of the Fabfilter plugin suite. So I decided to write up a brief list (with a brief explanation) of the free plugins that I currently use. However, buying FabFilter plugins can be costly. You can't really beat their suite of plugins and the extensive amount of features each of them have. Looking forward to you guys tearing me up in the comments section, but here we go.įabFilter plugins are amazing sounding and so intuitive to use. Our local Ashley Furniture Home store attitude toward customers is appalling. We work too hard for our money to give it to companies who have such little respect for their customers. Save yourself the stress and inconvenience, not to mention, poor quality of furniture. I call them again, they offer another chair, they will send me photos and let me pick the one with the best centered pattern.this has been going on now since March and we are into June. They will call me and let me know if they have approval to refund from Corporate. I refused, supervisor on the phone wants to debate that all the chairs have off centered patterns.not true, the damaged chair does not. Chair arrives, didn't check for frayed or raw edges as the pattern was totally off center. They will inspect before it is shipped from warehouse. Their customer care calls and they will exchange the chair. They then refuse to do anything more, I contact BBB and their corporate office. It has a hanging lining now, a pleat where it should not.I called again, they sent a 2nd repairman. They sent a repairman who totally ruined the chair. When it was delivered, the fabric had a raw edge that was concerning it would fray further so I called immediately. They called to schedule delivery on 2nd day for delivery on 3rd day. I purchased an accent chair, paid over $900 could have purchased at on line stores.the exact same chair for half, purchased from Ashley Furniture as they were local and promised to deliver in 2 days. Once you purchase it, no matter what the issue is, they consider it yours. Stay away from the nations largest furniture store. Do Not Shop Online with AshleyĪshley Furniture customer service is the absolute worst. It is a scam and a fraud, I am filing a complaint with the FTC. They are playing a percentage game that some people will wait anyway. But why should I have to take my time as an online customer who is trying to save time now have to visit a store to cancel. Apparently I now have to go to their store to cancel. Then they will try to deliver it and even if you refuse delivery they will try to charge you. Then they do not show up but they keep your charge processing. They promise you a fake delivery date that is very fast to get you to charge your card. The charge is still processing on my card. There is no way I can find to cancel online with my order number or the email they sent me. No one from Ashley called me to inform of this. I was so happy right up until I called the delivery driver and he told me it is on back order and there would be no delivery. July 2nd comes and they do in fact schedule my delivery from 8am - 12 noon. So I searched online and Ashley website gave me a July 2nd delivery date so for this reason only I purchased it from them. These items are not merchandise and should not be included in what the store deems as placing on store credit.įRAUD WEBSITE SCAM - I needed a king mattress delivered within a week or so to arrive in time for my new king bed frame from another company. Also, as a side note, they are trying to get me for a store credit that includes sales tax as well as warranty and delivery charge, adding an additional $332.43. Has anyone else ever had this situation, and if so, how did you handle it? I worry that they will now try to charge a closed account or bill me for the balance. I canceled the card completely so no purchases can be placed on it. So I called Citi Financial, who shows my account at a $0 balance. Obviously I will not pay a restocking fee, and a store credit is just not an option as I don't need any further furniture (I was told I had to use it within 60 days of "purchase"). I was told that the order was already on its way and that I would have to pay a 20% restocking fee or take a store credit. I in turn canceled the order as I found better items through another store. I placed an order for a couch/loveseat that was ordered through interest free financing and received credit through Citi Financial. Underlord Decks have Shared Heroes for Both Teams:.The more 2-star heroes you have on the board, the more stability and grip it will give on the game. If the enemy somehow would be able to eliminate your only hero on the board, then what else is left? Until mid-game, it is efficient to focus on 1-star and 2-star heroes. Some players immediately rush towards the 3-star hero upgrade, but early 3-star heroes are not efficient because you have to sacrifice 6 of your heroes (6, 1-star = 2, 2-star = 1, 3-star). Fill up all the space with 1-star heroes either you can sell them or combine them and come up with higher star heroes. Wanna know how? You can sell your 1-star heroes anytime for a 100% refund and use that gold for hero upgrade or buying higher star heroes. It’s a better plan to role in the mid or late game! □ġ-star heroes are quite weak, but they can provide massive advantages in the mid-game. Thereupon, you will lose early rounds and will have disadvantages for the rest of the match. If you start spending gold on rolling early, then the enemy will get stronger. In the early game, you barely have enough gold to upgrade the first heroes. Do not make this silly mistake in the early game because rolling requires 2 Gold.

However starting with iVolume 3.8.0 for Mac, the information is gathered in a different and more modern way from Music/iTunes, so this problem does no longer exist. For that you had to turn on “Share iTunes Library XML with other applications” in the “Advanced” settings of iTunes. Older versions of iTunes provided information about their music library in a so called XML file. Downloading and installing iTunes over the existing version usually helps in this situation. On Windows you sometimes get a warning that iTunes is not installed or can not be found. If iVolume doesn't find iTunes or doesn't display the latest library, what's the cause? You just have to make sure to have Sound Check turned on in Music/iTunes or on your playback device so that the adjustments made by iVolume take effect. Then you play your songs as usual with Music/iTunes, your iPhone, iPod, iPad, or Apple TV. No, you just let iVolume run once (every time you've added new songs) over your library. This information is used at playback-time to play a song softer or louder whenever Sound Check is turned on. It just replaces the information in the iTunNORM tag with perfect values. Is there any loss in quality to my songs? That's were iVolume comes into the game: iVolume re-analyzes every song with a professional algorithm that's oriented on the acoustic perception of the human ear and iVolume then permanently replaces the information in the iTunNORM tag of your songs with perfect values. Music's/iTunes' loudness analysis is very fast but unfortunately not very accurate so that Sound Check is not satisfying out-of-the-box. This information is used for playing a song a bit louder or softer at playback time whenever Sound Check is turned on. Information about the loudness is stored by Music/iTunes in a tag named iTunNORM inside your songs. IVolume effectively repairs Apple's built-in “Sound Check” function of Music/iTunes. He doesn’t have to be “passionate about the issues.” He should *realize* that “the issues” are matters that affect people’s lives, and not just pawns to be moved around a chess board for the sake of someone winning and someone losing. As a compromise, Savannah Guthrie moderated and Scarborough led the roundtable.” Offsite Link by Anonymous Republican presidential hopeful Rick Santorum was booked for that week’s show, and letting Scarborough interview a fellow conservative would undercut the franchise’s nonpartisan bona fides. But the network’s news division protested. In 2012, NBC executives had given Scarborough a shot at guest-hosting Meet the Press in Gregory’s absence, according to sources. And the staff wouldn’t have welcomed him in the moderator’s chair. When Gregory was in the hot seat, some thought Scarborough reached for the knives. “There are times when he would just not even talk to. “He constantly clashes with Phil Griffin,” says a former NBC employee. And inside MSNBC’s New York offices, Scarborough is known as a prima donna who doesn’t respond well to “no.” “ Scarborough, the Republican congressman turned MSNBC talking head and host of Morning Joe, had been after Gregory’s job for years, according to former NBC employees. Here’s an interesting, in-depth report about how Chuck Todd snatched Meet the Press from David Gregory, thanks in great part to Joe Scarborough’s attempts to become the host, which backfired because the Meet the Press staff hated him and refused to work with him.
